Rock Pets
Not every parent wants the expense or hassle of a real pet so these cute little rock pets should keep the kids amused for a while atleast! They are great for travel as they fit in the kids pockets too.
What you will need
Smooth rocks/pebbles
White paint
Stickers, goggily eyes, paint, glue etc to decorate them.
How to make them
1) We used pebbles that were already white from the local garden centre but you can always find some from your own garden and paint them white beforehand as the base colour.
2) Decorate the rock as your favourite bug or animal.
3) Leave them for a few hours for the paint and glue to dry completely and then the kids can play with them. You can even make them some mini homes out of old boxes for them too.
The Mini Mes have decided to keep theirs on the window to display hence all the glitter!

Oh they are great - and when my garden is a bit dryer I shall go out and look for a few rocks
ReplyDeleteWe had a great time looking for rocks "down the burn" once they had dried out we had a fun time decorating them...not too good was the mess and the glitter over their jackets when they insisted on carrying them in their pockets lol :)
ReplyDeletethese are great - I love the free or inexpensive craft ideas as the summer holidays can be very long & expensive :-)

ReplyDeletemy son has been learning about mini beats at school and we made a ladybird out of a stone. So simple but he loved it.
ReplyDeleteWe made these type of things once and the children wrote their names on. Good ideas.
ReplyDeleteThese remind me of my childhood, when I used to buy 'Cobblies' on holiday from a gift shop in Coombe Martin, Devon.
ReplyDeleteShall be picking up a few rocks when we go on holiday, I know we shouldn't but these need to be made
