Changes in taste, endless birthday presents and growth spurts all result in new goodies for our little ones but we don't always have the space for them to go in their rooms! Ikea have some great value storage solutions to cater for every need and they have provided us with units for both Minxy and Jamster to help sort our dilemmas.
Issue 1:
Jamster has a mountain of DVDs around his room and toys - I'd love a unit that could store both in as his room is quite small.
Ikea Solution:
"I think the IKEA Trofast unit is the right solution for your son’s bedroom. This is a fully flexible system with a range of colour choices that can be personalised to fit both function and style. The Trofast system can hold both DVD's on its shelves and with different size boxes, store all your sons toys in a tidy and organised way."

We were sent the Trofast system to resolve our issue and it was very quick and easy to assemble - the Mr completed it in about 20 minutes without moaning. It was nice having it arrive at our home from Ikea Milton Keynes as it saved several journeys to and from the store to collect everything and the delivery men were really polite and carried everything into the hallway for me.
The slots in each section allow you to slide in different shaped plastic containers in an order of your choice and the red, black and white ones we received match the style of Jamster's room well. They really took into consideration the photos that I sent when designing the furniture for him which was great.
There is plenty of room for not only his toys and DVDs as hoped but also for his clothing. So much so that I've been able to remove a chest of drawers to free up even more space which is incredibly handy considering his bedroom is the smallest within our home!
The small tray-like drawers are perfect for his socks, underwear and stationery whereas the deeper ones are ideal for jumpers, trousers, movie collection and large play-sets that we don't ideally want left on the floor.
We have been able to put his TV on top of the unit as well as some of his favourite figures which again has made his room appear bigger by freeing up other areas that were congested with toys including his windowsill. Jamster loves this unit and is more inclined to keep his room tidy which is definitely a bonus!
Issue 2:
Minxy has a sudden interest in fashion so I'd like a girly unit suitable for items that need hanging up, her shoes and some drawer space below.
Ikea Solution:
"The Stuva wardrobe in your daughter’s bedroom has been designed to fit your daughters specific need. With extra wire baskets and loose IKEA Kusiner boxes she can even organise her smaller things like underwear and socks. The way I have designed this wardrobe solution should also work with her as she grows and becomes a teenager."

Minxy was really pleased that this came in her favourite shade of pink - that alone got the Stuva wardrobe a big thumbs up! The drawers are really deep allowing plenty of room for her tops to be stored away with ease and we all like the fact that there are holes as handles rather than the traditional style. It gives it a much more modern look.
I assembled this myself and I found it really simple to do so. The instructions are informative and easy to follow even for a D.I.Y novice like myself! The added storage within the wardrobe including the Kusiner boxes and wire rack on runners helps to keep different items organised and we have even put a few family board games inside too on the top shelf.
Putting the first few bits in the wardrobe |
The unit is really sturdy and although legs were supplied we chose not to use these and to have the wardrobe in direct contact with the carpet. This has also enabled Minxy to reach the clothes rail without standing on tip toes - it's the ideal height for tweens! There is a kit to attach the wardrobe to the wall which we will be fixing on as soon as we have the rewiring and decorating completed during April/May. It's a good way to ensure the wardrobe won't topple over onto anyone and is fully secure. A great idea.
Overall we have been really pleased with the quality of the products and the service from Ikea. We already have other furniture from the store in our home and we will continue to shop there in the future. The storage we received has been really useful and the Mini Mes are really enjoying the new furniture in their room.
